Valerian Seeds

Valerian (valeriana officinalis) is a medicinal herb native to Europe and Asia mainly valued as a nervine and sedative, but it has many other medicinal and culinary uses. The tall plants are also prized as an ornamental for flower gardens due to their height and attractive clusters of white flowers that attract beneficial insects.

Growing Instructions: Sow directly in soil in spring, late summer, or fall. Can be started indoors a few weeks before the last frost. Plant in full sun or partial shade in rich, well-draining soil. Plants can be transplanted. Prune flowers before they go to seed to prevent valerian from becoming invasive. Roots should not be harvested until the second year. Not suitable for indoor container gardening.
