This ointment made with four medicinal nightshade herbs (belladonna, datura, henbane, and mandrake) and is a historically significant recipe as it mimics the formulas of witches’ flying ointments from the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period as well as soporific sponge recipes used by early surgeons for medical procedures and pain relieving ointments made by monk-healers at early Christian monasteries.
The Solanaceae Ointment is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, sedative, anti-emetic, and aphrodisiac. Use externally: apply to sore joints, muscles, temples, or the back of the neck depending on where it is needed.
Mandrake root (mandragora officinarum), belladonna (atropa belladonna), datura innoxia, black henbane (hyoscyamus niger), and balsam poplar buds (populus balsamifera).
