This fragrant herbal ointment is soothing plant medicine for the body, mind, and spirit. This non-drowsy salve is excellent for managing pain and stress during the day or for when you need an alternative to our medicinal nightshade ointments. Artemisia ointment can be used to ease the pain and inflammation of arthritis, rheumatism, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, sprains, and other joint and tendon issues. It also relieves sore muscles – especially for overtired feet and legs. It can also take care of that weird toenail fungus you haven’t told anyone about.

Made with organic mugwort (artemisia vulgaris), organic wormwood (artemisia absinthium), locally wild harvested poplar buds (populus balsamifera), wormwood essential oil (artemisia absinthium), sunflower oil (helianthus annuus), and beeswax.

Folklore

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) and wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) have been used by humans for thousands of years as medicinal, magical, and fumitory herbs. Both are traditionally used in folk magic around the world for purification, cleansing, exorcism, and protection just like evergreens and sages (which all contain the same active alkaloid thujone).

Artemisias are linked to the syncretized ancient goddess Artemis-Diana as the name artemisia means “of Artemis” or “gift of Artemis” who was a wild deity of the forests, hunting, and protector of childbirth. In Greek mythology mugwort and wormwood are also named as plants growing in the dark goddess Hekate’s garden. She was also syncretized with Artemis and shared the symbolism of doorways, crossroads, keys, and as protector of childbirth. All gained reputations as goddesses who were kind to witches and who would help those who were maligned, marginalized, and abused.

Mugwort and wormwood can be used to both summon and protect from spirits. They are excellent herbs for honing psychic ability and have traditional uses for divination, dreamwork, trancework, astral travel, shapeshifting, and spellwork.
